Chiropractic Care
While traditional Western medicine takes an outside-in approach to health, chiropractic care works by removing nervous system interference, which allows the body to heal naturally.
Keeping Your Nervous System Healthy
At conception, the nervous system – the body’s command center – is formed. The nervous system is the spinal cord, brain and intricate network of nerves that reach and affect every part of the body. The core of the nervous system is the spinal cord, which receives and transmits information in the body.
It’s vital that you have a healthy nervous system throughout your lifetime. Any interference in your nervous system can create not only symptoms such as pain, but also can compromise your overall health.
If you have a misalignment, Dr. Levi will realign your bones using a chiropractic adjustment. Communication between the brain and the body can then be restored.
Many people think that a chiropractic adjustment just helps with back or neck pain. They do not realize that, after an adjustment, many other things can improve in your body. We have seen patients have their blood pressure or their menstrual cycle improve as a result of removing interference in the nervous system.
At Optimal Care Chiropractic, Dr. Levi mainly uses the Gonstead Technique as it’s the one that makes the most sense to her. It’s also considered to be one of the safest systems of evaluating and caring for the spine.
A Thorough Evaluation
After reviewing your health history, Dr. Levi will perform a comprehensive examination. This includes a full spine X-ray employing a small heat-sensing instrument. This instrument reveals subluxation patterns through slight changes in temperature. Next, she will palpate or feel the location of individual bones to gather a more precise analysis.
Full Spine Correction
With a complete picture of your spine, Dr. Levi will make the necessary corrections.
To adjust your lower spine and pelvis, we will have you lie on your side. Subluxations in the middle back are corrected as you get into a comfortable kneeling position. When you are seated, we can restore your spine’s integrity without twisting or rotating your neck.
Though you may hear a slight “popping” sound, it’s nothing to be concerned about. It’s called joint cavitation. This popping is the result of small pockets of air that have built up in the joints of the spine being released.
The Importance of Function
Dr. Levi emphasizes the critical aspects of function during patient appointments. While she will help you get out of pain she wants to get to the root cause of your pain so you can function better. For example, maybe you sleep on your stomach or you walk with shoulders in a forward position. By getting information from you about your daily habits, she can provide guidance about how to move properly so you can function better.
